Message from the HoD’s Desk
As the Head GNDEC School of Architecture, I am honored to share with you our educational objective, which is to equip the younger generation with the skills and resilience needed to face life’s challenges. This belief forms the philosophy that drives the essence of our school. At GNDEC School of Architecture, we are committed to the path of success and constantly strive for improvement. We believe that academic excellence is just the beginning. We aim to provide a harmonious environment that nurtures all aspects of an individual, going beyond classroom learning to prepare our students to tackle the ever-changing world. Education is not just a profession for us, but a privilege to work closely with the youth, shaping them into competent and responsible citizens who can shape their own future and that of our country. Our team of skilled and resourceful faculty members is dedicated to taking up challenges and delivering creative and qualitative knowledge in various domains. Our goal is to make GNDEC School of Architecture a globally recognized Design Research institute, putting Ludhiana, Punjab, on the world map. We are constantly working towards strengthening our school of architecture year by year, and we are proud to lead this endeavor. Thesis Jury With Ar. Bimaldeep Singh
GNDEC School of Architecture organized an external Jury for the Concept Design stage of the 10th-semester B.Architecture Thesis. We are grateful to Ar Bimaldeep Singh for agreeing to visit our campus for the jury. He not only evaluated students’ work but also guided them for subsequent stages. Students were happy to interact with him and learn from his wisdom and rich experience. We congratulate Ar. Sukhmanjit Singh, Associate Professor & Thesis Coordinator at the GNDEC School of Architecture, for this wonderful initiative and mentorship. GNDEC School of Architecture organized the Architectural Design-VIII portfolio external jury for B.Arch 9th-semester students. We are grateful to Prof. Avinash Singh, Principal - School of Architecture, Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur, for visiting the department to conduct the viva. He appreciated the work of the students and also provided valuable insights about the upcoming thesis project. It was a great learning experience for the students. We congratulate Ar. First Year Jury With Ar. Harmandeep Singh
GNDEC School of Architecture organized an Architectural Design-I portfolio internal jury for B.Arch 1st semester students. We are grateful to Ar. Harmandeep Singh, Principal Architect, Habitable Spaces, Ludhiana, for visiting the department to conduct the viva. He appreciated the work of the students and also provided valuable insights regarding concept development, material selection, and elevation designs, motivating them to put in more effort in the coming semesters. It was a great learning experience for the students. We congratulate Ar. Dharini Middha and Ar.Jasleen Kaur, both Assistant Professors-GNDEC School of Architecture, and subject teachers for this wonderful initiative.
EDUCATIONAL VISITS
Visit to Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana
GNDEC School of Architecture organized a Case study Visit for B. Arch 4th-year students to FORTIS Hospital, Chandigarh Road, Ludhiana.
The main objective of the case study was to enable students to understand the important functions, such as OPD, Emergency, IPD, Diagnostics, ICU/CCUs, OTs, CSSD, etc., and their interconnectivity. We are grateful to hospital authorities for allowing us to conduct the case study and to Vinay Goel ji from Designex Architects, Ludhiana, for his support. We congratulate Prof Vivek Sehgal for mentoring the students and creating such excellent opportunities for them to learn.
Visit to AIIMS, Bathinda
GNDEC School of Architecture organized a Case study Visit for B. Arch 4th-year students to AIIMS, Bathinda.
The main objective of the case study was to enable students to understand the important functions, such as OPD, Emergency, IPD, Diagnostics, ICU/CCUs, OTs, CSSD, etc., and their interconnectivity. Additionally, the students also visited the Architecture Department at MRSPTU, Bathinda, and had meaningful discussions with the faculty. We are grateful to hospital authorities for allowing us to conduct the case study and Prof. Dr. Bhupinder Singh, HoD- Department of Architecture, MRSPTU, Bathinda, for his support. We congratulate Prof Vivek Sehgal & Prof Shivani Garg for mentoring the students and creating such excellent opportunities for them to learn.
Visit to Ambuja Cement Manufacturing Plant, Ropar With First Year Students
GNDEC School of Architecture’s first-year students got hands-on experience during an educational site visit to Ambuja Cement Manufacturing Plant at Ropar. Students were provided with an opportunity to visit the CCR Room, Physical Testing Lab, Chemical Testing Lab, Bag Testing & XRF Lab, Packing Plant, Mill Area, and Raw Material Section to understand the complete process from the delivery of raw materials to the dispatch of finished products. Students gained practical insights into large-scale industrial operations and Enhanced understanding of sustainable practices employed in modern cement manufacturing. A heartfelt thanks to Er Varinder Kumar Punj and Ar Balbir Bagga for helping get approvals from the management of Adani. We acknowledge Prof Vivek Sehgal and Ar. Shivani Garg for coordinating this visit.
Visit to Atam Vallabh Janpath, Ludhiana With First Year Students
GNDEC School of Architecture’s first-year students got hands-on experience during a live construction site visit to Atam Vallabh Janpath, Ludhiana.
The visit provided valuable insights into foundation work, brick masonry, formwork, and steel reinforcement detailing, enabling students to connect classroom concepts with on-site practices. They also explored the design of a luxurious villa spanning 2,200 sq. yards, with a focus on spatial planning at a larger scale.
A heartfelt thanks to Project Architect Ar. Sanjay Goel and Structural Consultant Er. B.S. Chahal for welcoming us to their site and sharing their expertise with our budding architects. We acknowledge Prof Vivek Sehgal for coordinating this visit.
Construction Site, Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana With First Year Students
Our first-semester B.Architecture students recently stepped out of the classroom and onto a live construction site in Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana.
From exploring brick masonry and RCC slab details to gaining firsthand experience with building services, the experience was a powerful way to connect theory with practice. A special thanks to Project Architect Bimaldeep Singh for his insightful interaction that inspired our budding architects even more!. We congratulate Prof Neha Garg and Prof Vivek Sehgal for this initiative.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND AWARDS
National level COA Awards Jury, Ahmedabad, Gujarat
GNDEC School of Architecture is extremely pleased to share that 3 teams from our B.Architecture 3rd year (Reyna, Ravneet, Gurvansh, Harman, Sayiam, Chahat, Sahil, Ladla, Nandini, Khushboo Devika, Sharan, Komal, and Maskeen) have been announced as Winners under the categories ‘Arts & Crafts Related to Building’ and ‘Indigenous Dwellings’ at the Zonal Jury in Council of Architecture Students’ Awards for Excellence in Documentation of Architectural Heritage 2025.
The students are currently in Ahmedabad to attend the national-level jury scheduled on 14th October at Nirma University. Prof.Akanksha Sharma, Head-GNDEC School of Architecture, congratulated all the subject teachers, Ar. Shivani Garg, Ar. Ravinder Singh and Ar.Vivek Sehgal and the zonal winners for this achievement. Dr.Sehijpal Singh, Principal-GNDEC, applauded the students’ efforts and encouraged them to keep up the good work.
NASA Appreciation Certificate
GNDEC School of Architecture is proud to receive an Appreciation Certificate from NASA India for its active participation and contribution in the events.
Additionally, our USEC Taranbir Singh was honoured with a medal by NASA India in recognition of his dedication, contribution, and efforts in making the unit shine and bring pride to our college at the First General Body Meeting (FGBM) and National India Research Conference (NIRC) held at Vivekananda Global University, Jaipur.
Sports- Tennis Team
GNDEC School of Architecture is glad to share that our Tennis team (Amanpreet, Dhriti, and Gaurvi) secured 3rd position in the Inter-College tournament held on 13th October at PAU, Ludhiana.
SEMINARS AND CONFERENCES
Seminar-Cum-Discussion Session On “From Concept To Critique: Navigating The Architectural Thesis Journey” By Ar. Pappal Suneja
GNDEC School of Architecture organized a seminar-cum-discussion session on “From Concept to Critique: Navigating the Architectural Thesis Journey” by Ar. Pappal Suneja, Ph.D. Scholar, Bauhaus Universität Weimar, Germany, for the final-year B.Architecture students.
Ar. Suneja threw light on key aspects of the thesis process — from topic selection to the development of the final design solution. He also interacted with the students, discussing their individual areas of interest, offering valuable critiques, and guiding them on how to advance effectively in their thesis journey.
Overall, it was an informative and engaging session that provided valuable insights for the students. Ar. Akanksha Sharma, Head- GNDEC School of Architecture, thanked the resource person for his contribution and encouraged the students to continue striving for excellence in their thesis work.
EVENTS
NEXUS Event – NASA (National Association Of Students of Architecture, India)
GNDEC School of Architecture (SOA), Ludhiana successfully organised a one-day NEXUS event on 21st February 2026, bringing together around 100 students from various colleges and universities across Punjab for a rich academic and creative exchange. Hosted at the GNDEC School of Architecture, the event featured two engaging sessions: the “Paint on Canvas” workshop, which encouraged students to create architectural masterpieces on canvas pouches through hands-on artistic exploration, and “Harmonize Your Space: Vastu Principles for Modern Living”, an insightful lecture by Vikas Aggarwal (Aura Expert) focusing on the basics of Vastu Shastra, spatial harmony, and practical tips for homes and workspaces. Organised under the NEXUS platform in association with the National Association of Students of Architecture, the event fostered creativity, cultural awareness, and interdisciplinary learning, providing students from across Punjab a shared platform to interact, learn, and celebrate architecture beyond the classroom in Ludhiana.
Educational Site Visits
3 day Educational Tour for the B.Architecture 3rd year students to Himachal Pradesh
GNDEC School of Architecture organized a 3 day Educational Tour for the B.Architecture 3rd year students to Himachal Pradesh. On the 1st Day, students visited proposed site for Resort (Studio Project in Architectural Design) with project Architect Rattanlal Sharma in Hamirpur. Students also visited his office in Ghumarwin and two of his built projects on contours. Ar Sharma enlightened the students with his practice and knowledge about Architectural projects on contour sites. On 2nd day, Heritage walk of the Pragpur/Garli (India's 1st Heritage village) was conducted to study the Architectural vocabulary and locally available materials. Students also visited Kaleshwar Temple at the banks of Beas river and conducted the case study of Lalit Palace Hotel on the same day. Students visited NIT, Hamirpur campus on the 3rd and last day of the tour where they met students and faculty of Architecture department. Various resources like project models on contour sites and thesis reports were studied by the students. Prof. (Dr.) Puneet Sharma gave wonderful presentation on Planning principles and construction strategies to be followed at contour sites.
Educational Visit to Kapurthala
GNDEC School of Architecture organized an educational visit to Kapurthala where students visited Rail Coach Factory, Science City and A2A Design Studio. Students learnt about Industrial buildings as they visited RCF where they observed Large Span Steel structures with light weight roofing materials. They also saw installation of different components like Partitions, Air conditioning, Flooring, Lighting, Electrical wires and cable fittings, etc.
One day workshop on concrete organised by GNDEC SoA in collaboration with Ultratech Cement
GNDEC School of Architecture, Ludhiana organized a One Day Hands-on Workshop on Concrete in collaboration with Ultratech Cement at their plant in Focal Point, Ludhiana. Students worked on different proportions of materials to prepare various grades of concrete. Concrete tests like slump tests, cone tests, setting time tests, etc were also conducted by the students. Mr. Gurpinderjit Singh-Plant Head, Er.Charanjit Singh - Punjab Sales Head, Mr.Rajeev Ranjan-Quality charge, and Mr.Anuj Tayagi - Technical Executive at Ultratech Cement Plant enlightened the students with their practical knowledge about concrete and its constituents.
Seminar on Fundamentals of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in collaboration with Mechanical engineering Department and supported by ISHRAE
GNDEC School of Architecture in collaboration with Mechanical Engineering Department organized a seminar on 'Fundamentals of Refrigeration & Air Conditioning' for the students which was supported by ISHRAE Ludhiana Sub-Chapter. We are grateful to Er Akshay Kumar, Associate Manager - Mitsubishi Electric India Private Limited that he visited GNDEC campus as a resource person. His presentation was not only informative but also very interesting and engaging. Dr Sehijpal Singh, Principal - GNDEC lauded the collaboration between two departments and highlighted the significance of inter-disciplinary approach in Technical Education.

GNDEC School of Architecture organized a Case study Visit for B. Architecture 4th year Students to the SPS hospital, Ludhiana. The main Objective for the case study was to make students understand the important functions like OPD, Emergency, IPD, Diagnostics, ICU/CCU's, OT's, CSSD, etc and their inter-connectivity. We are thankful to Er Charanpreet Singh Ji (Himself GNDEC Alumnus), Bhupinder Ji and complete hospital administration for allowing us to successfully conduct the case study. We congratulate Prof Ravinder Singh & Prof Vivek Sehgal for mentoring the students and creating such excellent opportunities for them to learn.
‘Hands-on Clay Workshop’ organised by GNDEC SoA FOR 1st year Students of B.arch
GNDEC School of Architecture organized 'Hands-on Clay Workshop' for students of B. Arch 1st year. Workshop was a huge success as students thoroughly enjoyed the event, learnt various skills pertaining to clay modelling and crafted various beautiful models. We are thankful to the resource persons Mr. Tanveer, Ms. Manmeet and Ms. Jasmeet (All 3rd Year Students from BCA department, GNDEC) as they spared the time for students of B.Architecture.
WORLD ARCHITECTURE WEEK- Students create an Amazing Sitting Space in College Campus
GNDEC School of Architecture is celebrating WORLD ARCHITECTURE WEEK by organizing experiential activities for B.Architecture students. Day 5 (06th October): Students of all the batches put their hands together and created a marvel sitting space in the college campus with waste material like tyres, empty bottles, sacks etc. and has completed the task within a very low budget.
Educational Tour to Jaipur and Jodhpur
School of Architecture organized one week long Educational Tour for the B.Architecture students of 2nd and 3rd year to Jaipur and Jodhpur. Heritage walk of the walled city Jaipur and Blue city Jodhpur was the prime learning experience for the students. Local architects Ar. Gaurav and Ar. Arjun, Principal Architects, Sawai Design Studio accompanied the students to the various heritage buildings of Jaipur which included Jal Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort, Albert Hall Museum, Panna Meena Ka Kund, Birla Mandir, Jagat Shiromani Temple, City Palace, Jantar Mandir and Tripolia Gate. Students also analysed the planning aspects of Jawahar Kala Kendra designed by Charles Correa. Prof. Priyanka Mehta, Head - Faculty of Architecture, MBM University, coordinated well with the faculty and facilitated our students and it was a great experiential learning collaboration between the students of both the colleges as they studied different house typologies, street sections of Old Brahmpuri Area, Jodhpur and visited heritage buildings like Jaswant Thada, Mehrangarh Fort, Toorji Ka Jhalra Bavdi, Ghanta Ghar and Mandore Garden. Students and faculty also had an interactive session with the architects of IIA Rajasthan Chapter particularly Ar.Ankur Tanwar & Office of Ar. Tushar Sogani.

67th Foundation Day Celebration at GNDEC
Students of GNDEC School of Architecture were acknowledged for their brilliance and achievements in academics/co-curricular/extra-curricular events during the 67th Foundation Day Celebration at GNDEC.
A3F sustainable design award bagged by Goresh Saini of 4th Year B.Architecture student
Goresh Saini, B.Arch 4th year student of GNDEC School of Architecture was declared the winner under the category A3F SD Sharma Sustainable Design Award. Goresh Proposed and designed a community center for the natives of the village Qila Raipur which consisted of a senior citizens centre, panchayat ghar, workshops and vocational training centre. The community centre depicted the rural vernacular architecture of Punjab. The competition was held by A3 Foundation which is an organization for research and promotion of sustainable and innovative architecture in India. The foundation is a brain child of Ar. Sangeet Sharma, practicing architect in Chandigarh which has given platform to many students and amateurs to explore in the field of architecture. The award ceremony was held on 18th March, 2023 in Auditorium, Government Museum, Sector 10, Chandigarh in the presence of many eminent architects from the industry.
GNDEC School of Architecture bagged the First Runner Up Trophy in the Cultural Fest “The Anand Utsav” 2023 at GNDEC campus, Ludhiana
The most exhilarating two-day Techno-Cultural fest was held on 16-17 March 2023 at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College. A huge participation was witnessed by GNDEC students and students from other institutions in various cultural and technical events. An exhibition of projects by various professional clubs of college students was also an attracting feature of the event. The panel of judges from diverse fields and esteemed institutes of the region were called upon for fair and viable results. Many deserving students achieved laurels in the field of academics and extracurricular activities at the fest.
